Designing, Terminology

On the following pages, you can find information on gratings, surface treatment, dimensions, mesh widths and tolerances.
Design
Weland´s technical department is available for advice regarding dimensioning as well as the production of layout drawings and designs of different Weland products.
Selecting grating length and layout
When establishing layout drawings the panel size should be based on the standard width of the grating (1000 mm) to achieve best possible economy.
If the grating is to be laid across a number of support beams, choose a length of grating that spans across as many supports as possible. This results in less deflection under load, you get a pleasant overall pattern and a minimum number of joints.
Avoid square shaped gratings to avoid incorrect positioning of the load bearing bars (the load bearing part of the grating).
Tagging
Every panel is provided with a marking tag with distinct characters indicating reference to the layout drawing, which makes site fixing easier.

Grating Dimensions presswelded grating
In the table, the construction dimensions in which the grating can be obtained (with full mesh) are set out.
Marked dimensions indicate standard width.
Example: An order for covering a gutter with grating type N, 1 each 600 x 16885 mm (grating measure) the grating is composed as follows: 16 panels 600 x 1000 and 1 panel 600 x 880 (880 is next to measure 885 in the table).

Surface treatment
Weland's products are delivered as standard hot dip galvanised, according to class SS-EN ISO 1461.
Hot dip galvanisation
The diagram shows the average service life for different thicknesses of zinc in different environments.

Treatment of stainless steel
Stainless steel grating can be sand-blasted, pickled or electrolytically treated to obtain a good surface finish.
